Sony approached Yahoo! because we had the largest online audience at the time. My role was to create campaign ideas to leverage this reach, and the European travel guide was one such concept.
The main goal was to create awareness for Sony Handycam, showcasing its digital video capabilities in an era when user-generated content was just starting to gain traction. We kicked off the campaign with professionally produced travel guide videos, created in collaboration with a production company. Users were then invited to drop a pin on a map and upload their own travel videos for a chance to win a luxury yacht trip in the South Pacific.
I led the concepting and art direction, working closely with the sales team to pitch the idea to Sony. The campaign launched in five European languages, resulting in over 600,000 unique users and 600 user submissions. The mix of professional and user-generated content made this project a standout, setting a new standard for interactive digital experiences.
